Community Classes at Yoga Vida

When working out at fitness studios in the city, the words, “community class,” are GOLDEN. Community classes are typically taught by new instructors who are getting a feel for teaching real time classes before their schedules go live. The best part? Community classes are for the most part free, or at least, donation based.

Yoga Vida is offering community classes now through December 10th. Through December! That’s amazing. So as the temps start to drop, and we fall back into our fitness routines (the ones that take place inside, instead of on the NYC piers and on the beach), we can get our flow on for only so much as $1. You can view the complete Yoga Vida class schedule here. Do note that if you need to rent a mat, you can do so for $2, but bring your own if you have one.

Community classes are open-level flow classes, so anyone and everyone can join in. They’re donation based so you can literally donate just a dollar to take class. For the most part, this is when they’re happening:

  • Monday – Friday at 7:30 am at Union Square
  • Monday, Wednesday, Friday at 2:30 pm at Union Square
  • Sunday at 2:00 pm at Noho

But as you scroll through the schedule, make sure to keep your eyes open because community classes could pop up at other times, or you can filter by “community class” here.

Sometimes when studios put community classes on the schedule, they’re at the worst times. But Yoga Vida, you’ve done well! To score a community class on a weekday before work, is invaluable. What better way to start the day than with a flow, a stretch and a tap into your inner self, to prepare you for anything that comes your way. We could all use some peace, meditation, and calmness in this crazy, busy city, right?!

And as your Sundays turn from beach days into football-watching couch days (or for some of us, food shopping and errands kind of days), a 2 PM yoga sesh followed by a post-workout lunch sounds excellent. And yes, my friend and I have already made plans to get our yoga on with a post-flow meal on these upcoming fall Sundays. Let me know if you want to join in 🙂

So whether you’re new to yoga, or a regular ol’ yogi, $1 classes never hurt nobody. I recommend taking advantage of these community classes over the next few months. Click on the class schedule here, donate $1 (or more if you’re feeling generous), get in that child’s pose and let it go. Namaste, yogis.
