Community Classes at Yoga Vida

yoga vida logo.png

When working out at fitness studios in the city, the words, “community class,” are GOLDEN. Community classes are typically taught by new instructors who are getting a feel for teaching real time classes before their schedules go live. The best part? Community classes are for the most part free, or at least, donation based.

Yoga Vida is offering community classes now through December 10th. Through December! That’s amazing. So as the temps start to drop, and we fall back into our fitness routines (the ones that take place inside, instead of on the NYC piers and on the beach), we can get our flow on for only so much as $1. You can view the complete Yoga Vida class schedule here. Do note that if you need to rent a mat, you can do so for $2, but bring your own if you have one.

Community classes are open-level flow classes, so anyone and everyone can join in. They’re donation based so you can literally donate just a dollar to take class. For the most part, this is when they’re happening:

  • Monday – Friday at 7:30 am at Union Square
  • Monday, Wednesday, Friday at 2:30 pm at Union Square
  • Sunday at 2:00 pm at Noho

But as you scroll through the schedule, make sure to keep your eyes open because community classes could pop up at other times, or you can filter by “community class” here.

Sometimes when studios put community classes on the schedule, they’re at the worst times. But Yoga Vida, you’ve done well! To score a community class on a weekday before work, is invaluable. What better way to start the day than with a flow, a stretch and a tap into your inner self, to prepare you for anything that comes your way. We could all use some peace, meditation, and calmness in this crazy, busy city, right?!

And as your Sundays turn from beach days into football-watching couch days (or for some of us, food shopping and errands kind of days), a 2 PM yoga sesh followed by a post-workout lunch sounds excellent. And yes, my friend and I have already made plans to get our yoga on with a post-flow meal on these upcoming fall Sundays. Let me know if you want to join in 🙂

So whether you’re new to yoga, or a regular ol’ yogi, $1 classes never hurt nobody. I recommend taking advantage of these community classes over the next few months. Click on the class schedule here, donate $1 (or more if you’re feeling generous), get in that child’s pose and let it go. Namaste, yogis.

Yoga Vida is opening their brand new studio in Tribeca on Monday, November 28th and they’re offering free yoga classes all day long. That’s 5 chances to take a free class!

What better way to come back from the Thanksgiving holiday and take a little time to de-stress and sweat it out, as we make our way back into the work week. I wonder if they planned it that way…God knows we’ll all need a lil sweat after all that turkey and pie.

Yoga Vida will be offering classes at 7:15 AM, 12:30 PM, 4:30 PM, 6:00 PM and 7:30 PM. Each class is an hour and 5 minutes long. Book your free class here.

This will be Yoga Vida’s 4th studio. If you remember, they opened their Dumbo studio not too long ago. Help them celebrate by checking out their brand new studio, and YOU get a free class. It’s a win-win 🙂

Yoga Vida Tribeca is located at: 416 Washington St.(entrance on Vestry St.). I’ll be at the 7:30 PM Heated Flow Candle Lit class. My FAVORITE type of yoga class. Who’s coming with me? It’ll be the perfect way to wind down and sweat it out after a full day back to work. Book your class here. Namaste 🙂

Namaste for Free

Yoga Vida is opening its doors at their brand new studio in Dumbo, Brooklyn, and we’re all invited. To celebrate their grand opening, they’re providing us with 2 FREE yoga classes, on Tuesday, September 13th at 6:00 PM and 6:30 PM. Healthy snacks and drinks from local vendors will be provided post-class. Free fitness + free food..count me in!

The 2 free classes are:

  1. Heated Flow: 6:00 PM – 7:05 PM
  2. Flow: 6:30 PM-7:35 PM

Each class is 65 minutes long.

In the heated flow class, you can expect a comfortable 80-90 degree room, warmed by infrared panels. Unlike traditional hot yoga (like Bikram), Yoga Vida uses infrared panels to heat the room. This means that once core temperatures rise, the temperature in the room will rise as well. It’s a more natural way of heating up the room. And don’t worry, even though it’s more natural, class will still be HOT, HOT, HOT. Get ready to sweat.

The flow class is an open level class, which makes it good for beginners. The structure of the class is kept simple but advanced yogis are invited to partake in some more challenging poses.

All of this is taking place at Yoga Vida Dumbo: 55 Prospect Street between Pearl St. and Adams Street in Brooklyn. To sign up for either class, click here and select Tuesday, September 13th.

Yoga Vida currently has locations in Union Square and Noho so let’s give them a warm welcome (get it, because it’s hot yoga) as they open up their 3rd studio.

So get ready to roll out your yoga mat, as Yoga Vida rolls out their brand new studio. And most importantly, namaste.

Yoga in NYC for Free

If you’re an Instagram fanatic like I am, then you’ve probably seen the overload of early morning yogis, downward dogging on the rooftops of NYC. And your jealousy starts to kick in just a tad. With the summer solstice gracing us with its presence this past Monday, summer is officially in full swing, which means awesome sunrises, the sound of birds chirping, and the very rare, peace and quiet in the city.

But don’t be jealous, because every Thursday morning from now until September, you have the opportunity to do just the same. For free. And you don’t need to wake up at 6 AM to do so. You may miss the early morning sunrise, but if you’re like me, waking up at 5:30 AM is just not going to happen. Talk about namaste in bed…

Thanks to Yoga Vida, you can get your yoga on outdoors every Thursday morning in Washington Square Park. Class will be held from 8:30 AM – 9:30 AM. All you have to do is bring your own mat and meet on the stage at Garibaldi Plaza. To sign up for class, click here to create an account and select the class (or classes)  of your choice.

In case you’re worried about what’s going to happen on the morning that you wake up and it feels like 200 degrees (hello August in NYC), don’t be nervous. In the event of extreme heat or pouring rain, class will  be canceled and you can check for updates on the WSPConservancy’s twitter account: @wspconservancy.

Keep calm and yoga on. And happy summer solstice! Winter is definitely NOT coming…
